Media Management with Delicious Library

I recently acquired an application that I had initially dismissed without much thought. It earned it’s second chance simply by me hearing the name again and having the realization that ‘that is an incredibly handy app’. The application is Delicious Library and not only is it incredibly useful and handy it is also beautifully designed. As someone with a lot of music, movies, and video games Delicious Library is like a dream come true. It is simply put, a virtual bookshelf.

Overview and Features

Upon opening Delicious Library for the first time all you will see is an empty shelf. Very quickly however you will notice that there is a lot of things that you will need to play with and see what this does and what that does.

There are a couple of ways of getting your media from your physical shelf to your digital shelf. The first way and to me the most impressive, however, least productive way is via the iSight camera. All you have to do is take your items case or box, swipe the barcode and Delicious Library goes to Amazon and obtains all the information about a movie that you could possibly want. The only downside to this form of transfer is that sometimes it can be difficult to get the barcode lines up well enough to be scanned. The way that I found most productive was by simply opening Amazon, searching for the media I own and dragging over the image of the cover. It works flawlessly. Once you have built up your library you can go into any movie, check out all of the info for the film, rate it, see what others have rated it, find similar movies, view a summary, run time and anything else that you could possibly need to know, you can find.

Who is this for?

I would only advise someone with a lot of media to spend the money on Delicious Library. It serves no purpose for someone with 5 movies next to their TV, this is for someone that either has a shelf full of movies or, as I do, manages most of their movie library on their computer. I have not tried it yet but it appears as though you can share your library with friends so, I would also be interested in giving that a shot so I can keep up with my friend’s libraries and what they have been watching.
