Spotlight Invades Quicksilver

Move over Quicksilver, there is a new heavyweight in the way users browse their system and files - it’s Spotlight. Let’s face it Spotlight in Mac OS X Tiger was a joke, any Mac without Quicksilver was at a great disadvantage for productivity. Among my favorite advancements in Leopard is the revamped Spotlight.

The biggest issue with Spotlight in Tiger was speed. It would take several seconds for keystrokes to be tracked as well as for results to be applied and files to be browsed. In Leopard these results come up instantaneously just as Quicksilver functioned in Tiger. Another reason I think I am going to become an exclusive Spotlight user is because of the memory that Quicksilver uses - not that it is extreme but, it is twice as much as Spotlight.

Don’t get me wrong, Quicksilver is still running on my machine…currently. I am continuing to use it just so I can be sure that I don’t want to abandon its power. As a loyal QS user this is a hard call, it has been around and helped me out so much, I hate to ditch it for the new kid but, as things look now, I might have a new best friend.
